Buyer's Premium:

A landscape painting executed in oil on canvas, depicting a rural scene under a vast, overcast sky, believed to be the village of Bardsea. The composition features a cluster of white-walled cottages and a prominent church spire set against a verdant hillside in the distance. The mid-ground and foreground are dominated by tall, dried grasses and autumnal foliage rendered in shades of ochre, burnt sienna, and muted green. The work employs a loose, impressionistic style with visible brushwork and impasto highlights. The painting is signed in the upper right quadrant in dark paint; the characters read F. H. Lanner. The canvas is housed in a polished mahogany-toned wooden frame featuring a gilded inner slip. A small, circular white adhesive label is present on the lower right corner of the gilded slip. The verso is not visible.

Condition report:

The painted surface appears to be in stable condition with no visible signs of craquelure, paint loss, or lifting (photo 1). A light layer of surface dust is present across the canvas and frame. The wooden frame shows minor surface abrasions and light wear to the corners consistent with age and handling. The gilded slip is intact with no significant loss to the gilt finish. No dimensions are provided as no scale is present in the image.
