A framed 18th-century memorial broadside titled The Life, Character and Death, of the Reverend Mr. William Crosby, late Vicar of Kirkby-Kendal. The work features a central portrait of the subject in clerical dress, housed within a decorative woodcut arched frame. The composition is surrounded by an ornate foliate border. The extensive letterpress text is arranged in three columns below and to the right of the portrait, providing a detailed hagiographic biography, religious reflections, and numerous biblical citations. The text refers to his death at the age of 70, recorded elsewhere as occurring in 1733. The broadside is printed on a single sheet of laid paper and is mounted and presented in a modern gilt-wood frame. An orange adhesive price or inventory label is present on the glass in the upper left corner.
Condition report:
The paper shows heavy overall toning to a dark tan colour and significant foxing throughout (photo 1). Horizontal and vertical fold lines are visible across the sheet, consistent with original distribution as a broadside. There is minor rippling to the paper surface under the glass. The gilt frame shows minor surface wear but remains structurally sound. The item has not been examined out of the frame.
