Lot 142: Vintage English Leather and Polished Wood Shooting Stick Seat
A British-made shooting stick designed for field sports and spectator use. The piece consists of a tapered, polished wooden shaft surmounted by a cast metal folding seat mechanism. The seat comprises two articulated metal arms supporting a brown leather sling, which forms a saddle-style seat when deployed. A leather strap with a metal buckle is attached to secure the arms together for use as a walking aid. The folding mechanism is constructed from a textured cast aluminium alloy. The circular metal hub of the hinge joint features an impressed mark in a circular orientation reading MADE IN ENGLAND. A sliding metal locking collar is positioned below the hinge to secure the shaft.
Condition report:
The leather seat and fastening strap show surface creasing, light scuffing, and signs of moderate use, though the stitching remains intact (photo 1). The wooden shaft exhibits minor surface abrasions and shallow scratches consistent with outdoor use (photo 1). The cast metal components show general surface oxidation and light pitting throughout the hinge and handle areas (photo 1). The lower ferrule and ground spike are not visible in the provided image for assessment.
