Lot 141: Antique Brass and Copper Bed Warmer with Turned Wooden Handle
A traditional English-style bed warmer featuring a circular brass lid and a copper pan body. The lid is constructed from pressed or spun brass with a slightly domed profile. It is attached to the pan by a hinged brass mounting plate, which is secured to the copper rim with two copper rivets. The pan is fitted with a dark-stained, turned wooden handle featuring decorative ring turnings and a brass ferrule at the join. No maker’s marks, signatures, or hallmarks are visible on the metal or wooden surfaces.
Condition report:
The brass lid exhibits several shallow, irregular dents across the centre and edges (photo 1). There are significant surface scratches and areas of light pitting throughout the brass exterior (photo 1). The copper pan body shows oxidation and traces of verdigris around the seams and hinge mount (photo 1). The wooden handle shows wear to the dark-stained finish, particularly on the raised edges of the turnings, though the wood remains structurally sound (photo 1). The hinge mechanism is intact and functional.
