Lot 137: A Victorian Style Cast Metal and Frosted Glass Centrepiece Bowl
A decorative centrepiece bowl featuring a translucent frosted glass liner with a smooth rounded rim. The liner is housed within an intricate cast metal frame, likely spelter or patinated bronze, displaying a dark brown aged patina. The frame is designed with a wide, flared rim featuring relief-cast motifs of foliate scrolls, shells, and grape clusters. The body of the frame consists of vertical arched ribs intersected by a central horizontal band adorned with floral and ribbon swags. The structure is supported by a short pedestal stem resting on a circular domed foot, which is finished with a beaded and foliate border. An orange adhesive price or inventory label is attached to the interior rim of the glass liner. No maker’s marks, signatures, or country-of-origin stamps are visible on the exterior or base of the object.
Condition report:
The metal frame shows signs of age with surface dust and minor wear to the dark patina, particularly on the raised relief elements. The frosted glass liner appears to be intact without visible chips or cracks, although it exhibits surface grime and light scuffing consistent with age and use.
