A hand-forged wrought iron girdle, also known as a griddle or bakestone, of traditional utilitarian form. The circular cooking plate features a hammered texture and a slightly concave profile consistent with manual forging. It is joined to a long, straight handle that incorporates two decorative double-twist sections and terminates in a flared, flattened tip. The iron has a dark, seasoned finish. An orange rectangular adhesive label is present on the cooking surface, bearing the handwritten number 135. The reverse side of the handle junction shows a visible weld point and hammered surface irregularities.
Condition report:
The girdle is in functional, stable condition. The cooking plate displays surface pitting and irregular textures characteristic of hand-wrought iron and historical use (photo 1). There is minor surface oxidation and light wear to the dark finish around the edges of the circular plate. The join between the handle and the cooking plate is secure with no evidence of structural failure. The decorative twists in the handle are well-defined.
