Lot 591: A Pair of Jacobean Revival Oak Side Chairs
A pair of oak side chairs in the Jacobean Revival style, finished with a dark brown stain. Each chair features a rectangular back with a central carved splat depicting a scrolling fleur-de-lis motif, positioned between two plain vertical slats. The construction shows visible mortise and tenon joints at the backrest and stretcher connections. The front legs display characteristic bulbous cup and cover turnings that transition into square blocks. These blocks are joined by an H-stretcher configuration. The padded seats are upholstered in a brown floral patterned damask fabric. A yellow rectangular adhesive label is present on the side rail of one chair backrest; no other marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the pieces.
Condition report:
The chairs are in fair condition with signs of significant wear consistent with age and use. There is extensive loss and scuffing to the dark stain across all wooden surfaces, particularly on the edges of the backrests, seat frames, and legs, revealing the lighter oak beneath (photo 1). The upholstery remains intact but exhibits general wear and fading (photo 1).
