Lot 8: Hand-Engraved Brass Jardiniere with Black Inlay
A globular brass vessel featuring extensive hand-engraved decoration across the exterior. The body is finished with horizontal registers of etched patterns, including a dense radiating leaf motif around the shoulder and a narrow border of repeating quatrefoil flowers. The main central field is covered in a complex scrolling foliate and floral design. The engraved lines are accented with a black pigment inlay to provide contrast against the brass ground. The vessel is constructed with a wide mouth and a slightly thickened, rounded rim. The interior surface exhibits a dark, matte oxidation. An orange adhesive label is present on the rim. No manufacturer marks, signatures, or stamps are visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The vessel exhibits a significant aged patina and surface tarnish throughout the exterior (photo 1). Small patches of green verdigris oxidation are visible on the surface. There is general surface wear to the engraved decoration and some loss to the black pigment inlay consistent with age and handling. An orange adhesive label is attached to the rim. No significant structural damage or dents are observed.
