Lot 72: A Cased Set of Seven Silver-Plated Spoons in the Old English Pattern
A cased set of seven silver-plated spoons including one large serving spoon and six smaller spoons, likely teaspoons. Each piece is designed in the Old English pattern, featuring plain, rounded terminals and oval bowls. The spoons are presented in a rectangular red textured case. The interior of the lid is lined with white silk, and the base is lined with black velvet containing custom-fitted slots for the smaller spoons and a central velvet-covered block with a metal retaining clip for the serving spoon. An orange rectangular adhesive label is applied to the handle of one small spoon reading 72. A white rectangular adhesive label is applied to the handle of another small spoon reading 4 4. No hallmarks, maker marks, or assay marks are visible in the provided photograph.
Condition report:
All seven spoons exhibit significant surface tarnish and dark oxidation, most prominently visible on the bowl and handle of the serving spoon and several of the smaller spoons (photo 1). Surface scratches and minor pitting consistent with use and age are present throughout the set. The presentation case shows external scuffing and wear to the corners and edges, with minor fraying and discolouration to the interior silk lining.
