A brass fireplace companion set comprising a central stand and four tools including a shovel, a pair of tongs, a poker, and a hearth brush. Each piece is constructed from cast and machined brass featuring matching turned baluster finials. The stand consists of a central stem with a three-pronged support rack, terminating in a weighted, stepped circular base. The tongs feature a scissor-action mechanism with circular finger loops. The shovel is designed with a flared rectangular blade, and the brush contains dark bristles. A white rectangular adhesive label is attached to one handle of the tongs, bearing the handwritten character 4. A larger orange rectangular adhesive label is affixed to the central tool rack, bearing the handwritten character 9. No stamped maker marks, hallmarks, or manufacturer labels are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The set is in good vintage condition showing signs of age and regular use. Moderate surface tarnish and light scratching are visible across the brass surfaces (photo 1). Small spots of oxidation and pitting are evident, particularly around the base and handle joints. The bristles of the hearth brush show slight splaying and wear (photo 1). Two adhesive labels are present and require removal.
