Lot 566: An Edwardian Hardwood Dressing Chest with Pierced Mirror Uprights
An Edwardian dressing chest constructed from light-toned hardwood with a warm honey-coloured finish. The base features a two-over-two drawer configuration with an overhanging rectangular top. The top is surmounted by a superstructure consisting of a central rectangular swivel mirror held between two tall uprights featuring decorative pierce-work in the form of shamrock motifs. A single, small central jewellery drawer is integrated into the mirror support frame. The drawers are fitted with polished brass swan-neck handles on decorative backplates, and the two upper short drawers include brass escutcheons. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the exterior surfaces of the piece.
Condition report:
The piece is in fair antique condition. There is visible surface wear, including staining and watermarks to the top surface of the chest (photo 1). The wooden frame displays minor scuffs, scratches, and small indentations consistent with age and domestic use. The mirror plate appears clear without significant foxing. The brass hardware is complete and exhibits a natural aged tarnish.
