Lot 54: An Assortment of East Asian Style Ceramics and Lacquerware
An assortment of East Asian decorative objects comprising porcelain jars, a figural jug, and lacquerware pieces. The collection includes a porcelain baluster jar and domed cover decorated in overglaze iron-red and gilt enamels with a scene of figures in a landscape. A porcelain ginger jar and cover is finished in underglaze blue with a prunus blossom and cracked ice pattern. A porcelain cream jug is modelled in the form of a seated cat, decorated with polychrome floral motifs. A circular ceramic box features a flat lid with enamelled floral and bird decoration within a gilt rim. The lot is completed by a hexagonal wooden box finished in brown lacquer with raised bamboo leaf decoration, and a small black lacquer rectangular tray with a landscape scene executed in gold and polychrome pigments. Each item in the lot bears a white rectangular adhesive label printed with the number 14. Four items, specifically the iron-red jar lid, the blue and white jar lid, the circular box, and the hexagonal box, also bear an orange rectangular adhesive label with the handwritten number 54. No other manufacturer marks, signatures, or backstamps are visible from the provided orientation.
Condition report:
The iron-red baluster jar shows fine crazing to the white porcelain glaze throughout the body and lid, with minor rubbing and wear to the gilt highlights on the lid and neck (photo 1). The hexagonal lacquer box and the small rectangular tray display minor surface scratches and evidence of handling consistent with age (photo 1). The cat-form jug, blue and white ginger jar, and circular lidded box appear to be in good condition with no visible chips or cracks from the angle provided (photo 1).
