Lot 536: Victorian Pine Two Over Three Chest of Drawers
A Victorian pine chest of drawers featuring a traditional two-over-three configuration, consisting of two short drawers at the top above three long graduated drawers. The chest is constructed from solid pine with a rounded edge to the top and is currently pictured resting on its right-hand side. It is fitted with eight turned wooden knobs and has a central inset keyhole for each drawer. The piece stands on turned wooden feet. The exterior has a naturally aged and waxed finish. No maker marks, manufacturer labels, or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The chest is in an honest, used condition with a significant patina consistent with its age. A visible drying split is present across the top panel (photo 1). The side panel, which is facing upwards in the image, shows multiple circular watermarks and rings (photo 1). The pine surface across the front and sides exhibits numerous surface scratches, small indentations, and abrasions. The original finish is heavily worn, particularly around the drawer pulls. One knob appears to be a darker wood, suggesting it is a later replacement. The drawers show some slight misalignment typical of antique furniture.
