A floor-standing storage unit constructed from oak with a dark-stained finish. The upper portion features a fall-front desk with a recessed panel and a small turned wooden pull handle, opening on internal brass support stays to reveal a fitted interior containing four pigeonholes and a central horizontal shelf. Below the bureau section are three fixed-height open shelves. The unit is supported by side panels that are shaped at the base to form feet. A circular white adhesive paper label is adhered to the interior back panel of the central pigeonhole; printed characters around the top edge of the label are partially legible as GUARANTEED, but the central text is not legible as a name or maker.
Condition report:
The unit shows signs of age and regular use. There is visible wear to the finish throughout, including numerous scuffs and surface scratches on the top and side panels (photo 1). The interior writing surface and the base of the pigeonholes show significant finish loss and surface marking (photo 2). The internal brass hinges and stays exhibit surface oxidation (photo 2). A small area of surface loss is visible on the interior back panel (photo 2). The structure remains stable.
