Lot 487: A Pair of Large Cast Metal Decorative Crane Sculptures
A pair of large-scale decorative crane sculptures, each figure depicted in a distinct naturalistic pose. One crane is modelled with an upright posture and an arched neck, while the second is rendered with its head tucked back towards its body. Both figures feature detailed, moulded plumage across the wings and torsos. The sculptures are mounted on integral, irregular bases textured to resemble natural rock. The items are constructed from a heavy cast material, finished with a dark charcoal, weathered lead-grey textured coating. A small orange rectangular adhesive label is applied to the base of the preening crane, bearing characters that are not clearly legible; a similar orange label is present on the base of the upright crane. No manufacturer’s marks, signatures, or factory stamps are discernible on either figure.
Condition report:
The pieces exhibit surface wear and weathering consistent with age and probable outdoor display. There is noticeable white surface residue and spotting, particularly concentrated on the heads and necks of both cranes (photo 1). The bases show accumulations of surface dirt and dried organic material (photo 1). No significant structural damage, chips, or repairs are visible.
