Lot 480: A mid-century modern style five-arm chrome-plated arc floor lamp
A five-arm arc floor lamp of the style frequently referred to as a Medusa lamp. The piece is constructed with five slender, curved chrome-plated tubular metal arms of varying lengths that fan out from a central point. The lamp is currently fitted with four white glass shades of two different forms: three are spherical globes and one is a flared hemispherical bowl. One arm is currently without a shade, leaving the socket and a small bulb exposed. The lamp uses small screw-type sockets. A small orange rectangular adhesive label is present on one of the upper chrome arms; the characters on this label are not legible as a name. No other maker marks, manufacturer labels, or country-of-origin marks are visible.
Condition report:
The lamp is in used, unrestored condition and requires cleaning. One glass shade is missing from the five-arm configuration (photo 1). The remaining shades are mismatched, consisting of three globes and one flared bowl-shaped shade (photo 1). There is visible surface grime and light dust across the chrome and glass components. The chrome plating appears largely intact, though there is minor surface pitting and oxidation consistent with age. The electrical components are untested and the lamp must be inspected and rewired by a qualified electrician before use.
