Lot 409: A Pair of Record No. 135 Heavy-Duty Steel T-Bar Sash Clamps
A pair of heavy-duty T-bar sash clamps constructed with steel bars and cast iron components. Each clamp features a long T-section steel bar with multiple adjustment holes positioned at regular intervals. The clamping mechanism consists of a sliding cast iron head with a steel screw and cross-bar handle, and an adjustable cast iron tail stop. The cast iron jaws are embossed with the name RECORD and the model number 135 in raised block lettering. The sliding components retain remnants of a blue painted finish. One tail stop is attached to the bar via a metal link chain, while the other tail stop pin is present without its chain. These tools are characteristic of mid-20th-century British industrial manufacture.
Condition report:
The clamps are in used workshop condition. There is significant surface oxidation and light rust present across the entire length of the steel bars and on the screw threads (photo 1). The blue paint on the cast iron jaws is heavily worn with extensive chipping and loss throughout (photo 1). The screw mechanisms and handles appear functional but exhibit surface corrosion. One clamp is missing the metal chain for its tail stop pin (photo 1, lower clamp). The steel bars appear structurally straight without visible bending.
