Lot 375: A Collection of Vintage Garden Rakes Including a Spear & Jackson Example
A collection of vintage long-handled garden rakes featuring wooden shafts and metal heads. One tool is a leaf rake with a fanned metal head and a wooden handle; the handle is marked with a red adhesive band and an oval metallic label reading SPEAR & JACKSON. Also included is a bow-style soil rake with an oxidised metal head and a wooden handle. This handle is marked with a yellow adhesive band, a small white rectangular sticker printed with the numerals 1 1, and an orange rectangular sticker with characters that are not legible. The tools are of traditional construction with wooden shafts inserted into metal sockets.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of significant age and use. The metal heads exhibit extensive surface rust, oxidation, and pitting (photo 1). The wooden handles show general wear, scuffs, and residue from old adhesive labels (photo 1).
