Lot 307: Large Gothic Revival Iron and Oak Rim Lock with Pierced Decorative Straps and Key
A large iron rim lock mounted to a thick wooden block, featuring two wide iron fixing straps with pierced quatrefoil motifs. The lock body is constructed from iron with a black finish and includes a circular brass keyhole escutcheon and a brass follower for a square spindle. It is accompanied by a substantial iron bow key. An orange rectangular adhesive sticker on the lock face is marked 307. A white rectangular adhesive sticker on the lock case is marked 12, and a matching sticker is applied to the wooden mounting block. There are no maker marks or manufacturer stamps visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The lock assembly is in salvaged condition. The iron straps and fixing bolts exhibit extensive surface oxidisation and pitting (main photo). The black painted finish on the lock case is heavily chipped with significant loss (main photo). The wooden block shows surface staining, wear, and age-related splitting (main photo). The brass escutcheon and follower have a dark, unpolished patina (main photo). The internal mechanical operation has not been tested.
