Lot 292: A Collection of Four Illustrated Books Including The Best of Lakeland and The Complete Valley of the Kings
A collection of four large-format illustrated non-fiction books, primarily focused on British topography and Egyptology. The lot comprises: The Best of Lakeland by Hunter Davies, featuring a pictorial dust jacket with a reflected mountain landscape; The Complete Valley of the Kings: Tombs and Treasures of Egypt’s Greatest Pharaohs by Nicholas Reeves and Richard H. Wilkinson, with a dust jacket depicting the funerary mask of Tutankhamun; and two copies of The Lake District: A Celebration of Cumbria by Edmund Swinglehurst. One copy of the Swinglehurst title features a dust jacket with a vertical composition of four photographs including a stone barn and sheep, while the other copy features a different jacket design with a large boulder in the foreground and three smaller inset images. All four volumes are hardcovers with their original pictorial dust jackets. The authors’ names are printed clearly on the front covers and spines. A small circular yellow adhesive sticker is attached to the upper right corner of the front jacket of the Egyptology volume.
Condition report:
The collection is in good overall condition. Minor shelf wear and light rubbing are visible to the edges and corners of the pictorial dust jackets (photo 1). A small yellow adhesive price sticker is present on the front of The Complete Valley of the Kings (photo 1). No significant tears, losses, or major fading are visible to the exteriors of the volumes.
