Lot 26: A Pair of Georgian Style Cast Brass Candlesticks
A pair of cast brass table candlesticks executed in the late eighteenth-century Georgian style. Each candlestick features a baluster-turned and knopped stem rising from a stepped hexagonal base and terminating in a flared sconce with an integral circular drip pan. The construction is sectional and likely joined by internal threading. The items possess an aged, unpolished patina. Both bases feature two small white rectangular adhesive labels bearing the number 19 19. One base also carries a circular orange adhesive price or lot label marked with the number 20. No maker marks or hallmarks are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The pair shows an aged, unpolished patina with surface oxidation and tarnish throughout. Heavy wax residue is present within both sconces and on the drip pans (photo 1). Minor scattered spots of green verdigris are visible on the rim of one sconce (photo 1). General surface wear, including light scratches and minor pitting, is visible on the bases and stems, consistent with domestic use and age. The items appear structurally sound with no visible dents or repairs.
