Lot 253: L. Berry, Poppies, Botanical Watercolor Study
A botanical study in watercolor and pencil on textured white paper depicting a cluster of red poppy blooms, buds, and green foliage. The work is executed with fine line detail for the stems and seed pods, overlaid with red and orange washes to form the petals. The artwork is signed vertically in the lower right corner in black ink L.BERRY and titled below this POPPIES. It is presented behind glass within a dark grey mount and a decorative gilded wooden frame. An orange adhesive label on the mount reads 253 and a white adhesive label in the upper right corner reads 10.
Condition report:
The watercolor paper shows slight toning throughout (photo 1). The medium remains bright with no visible fading or moisture damage. There is a small amount of dust and debris trapped between the glass and the grey mount (photo 1). The gilded frame exhibits visible wear, including scuffing and small losses to the gilded surface at the corners and along the edges (photo 1).
