Lot 20: An Assortment of British Sterling Silver and Silver-Plated Flatware

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

An assortment of silver-toned flatware including serving spoons, dinner forks, dessert forks, and teaspoons. The lot features a variety of patterns such as Fiddle, Old English, and handles with ribbed or shell-decorated motifs. Several pieces are constructed of solid sterling silver while others are electroplated nickel silver. One fork handle bears a rectangular punch containing the letters G, A, followed by a lion passant, a leopard’s head, and a lowercase letter o, indicating the maker George Adams of Chawner and Co, London. A second fork handle features an impressed crown, a lion passant, a lowercase letter h, and the letters J, B, &, S, corresponding to James Dixon and Sons, Sheffield. Many items, including a prominent large serving spoon and several smaller forks, bear the literal impressed mark E, P, N, S. Certain pieces also feature the maker mark W, &, H for Walker and Hall. Other items have marks that are present but not clearly legible in the provided view.

Condition report:

The collection is in used, auction-grade condition. All pieces show varying degrees of surface scratching, contact marks, and tarnish consistent with age and regular use (photo 1). Some fork tines appear slightly misaligned (photo 1). The large serving spoon exhibits more pronounced surface wear and a duller patina compared to the sterling silver pieces (photo 1).
