Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A framed watercolour on paper depicting a traditional topographical landscape of Wastwater in the Lake District. The composition features a shepherd in a flat cap carrying a walking stick, accompanied by a black and white sheepdog on a stony track. The figures are positioned in the mid-foreground, heading towards a gate and a small flock of sheep. The middle distance shows a stone-walled field and the expanse of the lake, framed by the steep fells characteristic of the Wasdale valley. The work is executed in a realistic, illustrative style with a palette of greens, greys, and earthy tones.

In the bottom right corner, a black painted signature and date read T. Leslie-Hawkes ’83 (photo 2). In the bottom left corner, a black painted title reads Wastwater (photo 3). The artwork is presented within a double green card mount and a dark wood frame with a gilt inner slip. A white circular adhesive label marked 2 is affixed to the lower-left corner of the glazing, and an orange rectangular adhesive label marked 143 is in the lower-right corner (photo 1).

Condition report:

The watercolour appears to be in good overall condition with no visible signs of foxing, staining, or water damage to the paper (photo 1). The colours remain stable and show no significant evidence of fading. The mount is clean and shows no signs of acidic toning. The glazing has minor surface dust. The wooden frame shows light scuffing and minor wear to the finish consistent with age and handling (photo 1).
