Lot 139: A Sadler Lustre Lidded Ginger Jar and a Pair of Floral Ceramic Jars
A trio of decorative ceramic jars comprising a single lidded ginger jar and a matching pair of open jars. The lidded ginger jar, manufactured by Sadler, England, features an ovoid body finished in an iridescent mother-of-pearl lustre glaze. It is decorated with transfer-printed motifs of long-tailed birds, resembling birds of paradise, perched among green foliage. The jar is topped with a matching domed lid featuring a bird motif and a pointed finial finished in gold-tone gilding. The pair of ceramic jars are of ovoid form with wide, slightly flared rims. These pieces feature a white ground decorated with a trailing floral pattern in soft tones of pink, peach, and pale green, depicting wisteria or blossom. The interior of the rims displays a pale green tint. All three items bear white rectangular stickers with the printed numeral 14. The lidded jar lid and one floral jar also bear orange rectangular stickers with the handwritten number 139.
Condition report:
The items appear to be in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or structural repairs to the ceramic bodies. There is minor surface wear and light rubbing to the gilded finial on the lidded ginger jar, consistent with age and handling.
