Lot 733: An Edwardian Sterling Silver Vesta Case by Henry Clifford Davis, Birmingham 1912
A rectangular sterling silver vesta case of typical pocket form with rounded corners and a side-mounted suspension loop. The exterior is decorated with hand-engraved foliate scrollwork and bright-cut patterns surrounding a central unengraved shield-shaped cartouche. The hinged lid opens to reveal a gilded interior. The item bears full British hallmarks on the interior lip of the body and corresponding marks to the lid. Hallmarks include the maker’s mark HC for Henry Clifford Davis, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for Birmingham, and the date letter n for 1912.

Condition report:
The vesta case is in excellent antique condition with the hinge remaining tight and functional. The hand-engraved decoration remains crisp with only minor surface wear consistent with age. The interior gilding is well-preserved. There are some light surface scratches and minor tarnish commensurate with use. No major dents or repairs are visible.
