A collection of British military and personal items, primarily relating to the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy. The lot includes a Royal Air Force Certificate of Service with a light blue card cover, bearing the RAF crest under a King’s Crown and the motto Per Ardua Ad Astra.
The insignia consist of a Royal Navy Officer’s bullion wire cap badge featuring a silvered fouled anchor within a laurel wreath under a King’s Crown, plus a separate bullion leaf element. Also included is a modern HM Armed Forces Veteran enamel lapel badge in its original dark blue presentation box.
The horological component features an open-face, silver-toned pocket watch by Woodford. The white dial is printed with black Arabic numerals 1-12 and a red inner ring for 24-hour time 13-24, with a subsidiary seconds dial at the 6 o’clock position. The watch is attached to a white metal curb-link chain.
The collection is rounded out by an assortment of brass military buttons, many displaying the RAF eagle and crown. Backmarks on the buttons include Gaunt London, B.B.M. & M. Mark, and H.M. & Sons Ltd London. Small badges present include a Midlands C.C. & Track League enamel badge and an RAF sweetheart-style brooch.
Condition report:
The RAF Certificate of Service exhibits age-related wear, staining, and discoloration. The bullion badges show significant tarnishing and some fraying to the wire threads. The pocket watch case has light surface scratches; the dial and glass are clear. The watch movement is untested and its working order is not guaranteed. Brass buttons show heavy patina and oxidation. The veteran badge is in excellent, near-mint condition in its original box.
