Lot 708: An Assortment of Costume Jewellery and Wristwatches in an Antique Writing Slope
A collection of mid-to-late 20th-century costume jewellery and wristwatches contained within a period wooden box. The jewellery includes a variety of brooches, notably a gold-tone spider set with clear rhinestones and a large pavé-set bird-of-prey. Other items comprise a wide gold-tone link bracelet with champagne-coloured faceted stones, a gold-tone bangle decorated with blue, yellow, and white enamel flowers, and various strands of faux pearls and multi-coloured beads. Some items are housed in original packaging, including a white box marked ISIS and a red box for an alloy hair brooch. Two wristwatches are present with leather and faux-crocodile straps. The container is a late 19th or early 20th-century writing slope or workbox finished in a figured wood veneer with an inset white metal shield-shaped escutcheon and a divided interior.
Condition report:
The wooden box is in poor to fair condition with significant surface wear, deep scratches, and white paint splashes to the exterior. The jewellery items show varying degrees of tarnish and wear consistent with bulk storage. Some pieces are tangled and the completeness of stones or the working condition of the watches cannot be guaranteed.
