Lot 651: A large Fosters Newlyn pottery multi-handled lamp base
A large ceramic vessel by Fosters Pottery, Newlyn, of globular form featuring four ornate scrolling handles that connect a flared trumpet-shaped neck to the main body. The piece is finished in a characteristic high-gloss mottled glaze of honey-brown and cream-white tones. It is further decorated with rows of raised circular bosses in a darker brown glaze around the neck and handles. The shoulder of the vessel is pierced with five circular apertures, designed to function as a lamp base, though no electrical fittings are present. The interior is finished in a solid dark brown glaze. There are no visible maker’s marks on the body.
Dimensions: approximately 25cm – 35cm in height.
Condition report:
The item is in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of restoration. There are minor surface irregularities and small glaze pops consistent with the manufacturing process.
