Lot 648: A Pair of Neoclassical Style Painted Bedside Chests
A matched pair of two-drawer bedside chests or pedestals executed in a Neoclassical style. Each unit is finished in a uniform off-white paint and features a rectangular top above a dentil-moulded frieze. The corners are flanked by full-height rope-twist columns, each surmounted by a capital in the Ionic order. Each chest contains two drawers, with the pulls designed as matching miniature Ionic volutes. The units are supported by a solid plinth base. The construction appears to be of a composite material or heavily painted timber. No maker’s marks, signatures, or branding are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The chests are in good used condition. There are minor surface scuffs and small marks consistent with age and domestic use. A small reddish mark is visible on the upper front edge of one chest. The painted finish is largely intact with no major chipping or cracking evident.
