A set of three lidded earthenware vessels consisting of two large rectangular vegetable tureens and one smaller rectangular sauce tureen. The pieces are decorated in the Aesthetic Movement style with Japanesque transfer-printed designs in a sepia tone on a cream ground. The decoration includes stylised floral sprays and botanical motifs alongside decorative geometric diaper panels. Hand-applied gilt highlights are present on the pattern and the ornate scrolled handles and finials. Each vessel is rectangular in form with canted corners. The lid of the sauce tureen features a notch designed to accommodate a ladle. No maker’s marks or backstamps are visible. The items are marked with an orange auction lot sticker numbered 623 and white labels with the number 4.
Condition report:
All three items display extensive and fine all-over glaze crazing. No major chips, cracks, or signs of restoration are visible. There is some minor surface dirt and light staining present, consistent with age and utilitarian use.
