JULY AUCTION

Lot 560: Late 19th or Early 20th Century Oak Revolving Captains Armchair

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A Victorian style revolving captains or smokers bow armchair of solid oak construction. The chair features a low, curved backrest with a padded leather bolster, supported by a series of turned spindles. The wide, steam bent armrest rail terminates in rounded grips. The seat is upholstered in deep brown leather, secured by a decorative border of brass toned upholstery studs. The chair is mounted on a four legged revolving pedestal base with outward curving, fluted legs. A small, rectangular white adhesive label is present on the front left portion of the armrail, but no maker marks or stamps are visible on the frame.

Condition report:

The chair is in poor to fair condition and requires restoration. One turned spindle is missing from the backrest. The leather seat is heavily distressed with extensive alligatoring, deep cracks, and surface losses across the entire area. The back bolster shows noticeable wear. There is significant wear to the wood finish, particularly on the armrests and the edges of the seat frame, consistent with prolonged use. Numerous scuffs, scratches, and abrasions are present on the legs and frame. The functionality of the revolving mechanism has not been tested.
