Lot 344: A Collection of Vintage Children's Annuals and Cloth-bound Books
A collection of vintage children’s annuals and various cloth-bound volumes dating from the early to mid-20th century. The lot features The Agnes Richardson Annual, published by Birn Brothers Ltd, with pictorial paper-covered boards and an illustration of children with playing cards titled Here’s Luck For You!. Also included is Lucie Attwell’s Annual by Mabel Lucie Attwell, published by Dean and Son Ltd. Notable cloth-bound volumes include Lullaby-Land by Eugene Field, featuring a red cloth binding with a gilt-stamped pictorial spine; The World of the Children in black cloth with gilt lettering; and The Royal Family in Africa in brown cloth. The assortment further contains several red cloth-bound titles including The Story of the Great War and a volume of poetical works, alongside a smaller volume titled Lancashire.
Condition report:
This collection is in mixed condition with evidence of significant wear consistent with age and use. The Agnes Richardson Annual exhibits major paper loss to the spine, exposing the binding, along with heavy edge wear and surface scuffing to the boards. Other volumes show varying degrees of shelf wear including bumped corners, faded spines, foxing to page edges, and occasional fraying to the cloth at the head and foot of the spines.
