Lot 34: Three Volumes including Price, Nancy. A Vagabond's Way. George Allen & Unwin.
A trio of individual titles comprising works of poetry, travel, and scripture. The first is The Poetical Works of William Wordsworth, presented in an ornate binding of dark pebble-grained material featuring a gilt-stamped monogram of the author’s initials on the front board. The second volume is A Vagabond’s Way: haphazard wanderings on the fells by Nancy Price, published in London by George Allen & Unwin Ltd. This work, a noted title for Lake District fell-walking literature, is illustrated by A. S. Hartrick, A.R.W.S., including a frontispiece titled Rough Weather on the Great Gable. The third item is a small-format Holy Bible, Authorised King James Version, printed by the Trinitarian Bible Society at 217 Kingston Road, London. This New Brevier 16mo Reference edition is printed on thin India paper and bound in a flexible black textured cover with gilt title lettering to the spine.
Condition report:
The Wordsworth volume displays moderate to heavy foxing to the internal pages and title page, with a distinct organic residue mark near the centre of the title leaf; the binding shows typical shelf wear and rubbing to the corners and spine ends. The Nancy Price volume shows light foxing to the internal pages and fading to the green cloth covers. The Bible exhibits significant water staining and wrinkling to the upper margins of the first few leaves, with general handling wear and creasing to the flexible covers. All volumes bear various white and orange adhesive stickers attached to the external bindings.
