Buyer's Premium:

This 19th-century architectural design print depicts an intricate Gothic Revival ornamental arched screen or window, identified as a cast iron panel from Mülheim, Germany. The central composition features a knight in full plate armour on a caparisoned horse, surrounded by dense scrolling foliate work and numerous heraldic shields. The print is a plate from a large folio documenting the 1862 International Exhibition, likely from J.B. Waring’s Masterpieces of Industrial Art and Sculpture at the International Exhibition, 1862. It is a monochrome impression with sharp, well-defined line work characteristic of a steel engraving. The margins are inscribed VOL. III at the top left, PLATE 17 at the top right, and S. E. R. A. B. A. T. I. at the bottom left. The work is housed in a dark wood frame with a beaded gilt inner border and a cream mount.

Condition report:

The paper displays overall light toning and scattered foxing throughout the margins and image area. The impression is crisp with good detail retention. The dark wood frame has minor surface scuffs and signs of wear consistent with age. Dust and light surface debris are present under the glazing.
