An oil on canvas still life depicting a white bowl overflowing with a mound of apples in shades of green, red, and yellow, set against a dark, tonal background. This composition is a faithful copy of the 1871-72 work Still Life with Fruit by Gustave Courbet. The work is executed in a realistic academic style with visible brushwork and impasto highlights on the fruit skins. Signed vertically in red paint L. Courtois in the upper right corner. The canvas is housed in a simple rectangular wooden frame with a recessed beige fabric liner. A small white circular sticker with the number 4 is present on the top left of the fabric liner, and a yellow sticker is affixed to the right frame edge.
Condition report:
The paint surface displays widespread fine craquelure throughout. There is a significant accumulation of surface dust and grime. The wooden frame shows minor surface abrasions and nicks.
