Lot 291: A Large Collection of Vintage Ladybird Books and an Original Broadway Cast Recording Vinyl LP
This lot comprises an assortment of vintage children’s hardback books, primarily from the Ladybird series published by Wills & Hepworth Ltd. and Ladybird Books Ltd. The collection includes various educational and narrative titles such as Lives of the Great Composers (Books 1 and 2), The Story of Music, The Story of Ships, Lighthouses, Lightships & Lifeboats, Light, Mirrors and Lenses, Helping at Home, Things to Make, and Oliver Cromwell. Other visible titles include The Ambush, The Silver Arrow, Stories About Jesus the Helper, In the Train, Julius Caesar and Roman Britain, Cub Scouts, HRH The Princess of Wales, A Second Picture Dictionary, The Fireman, How it Works: The Motor Car, Exploring Space, Underwater Exploration, The Story of Flight, First Ladybird Book of Nursery Rhymes, Rumpelstiltskin, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Enormous Turnip, Things we do, and First Book of Saints. The books are housed in a clear plastic storage bin. Also included is a yellow illustrated Drawing activity box with a palette and scissors motif. Accompanying the books is a 12 inch vinyl long play record of the Flower Drum Song original Broadway cast recording. The sleeve credits music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein 2nd, based on the novel by C.Y. Lee, and directed by Gene Kelly. The cast listed includes Miyoshi Umeki, Larry Blyden, Juanita Hall, Ed Kenney, Keye Luke, Arabella Hong, and Pat Suzuki. An orange auction sticker numbered 291 is affixed to the record sleeve.
Condition report:
The books show signs of age and handling consistent with children\'s literature, including bumped corners, surface rubbing to the boards, and some fading to the spines. Most spines remain intact and legible. The vinyl record sleeve exhibits shelf wear, including edge rubbing, corner creasing, and surface scuffing. There is a small ink mark on the front cover of the record sleeve. Items are sold as seen.
