Lot 261: Mauser Stainless Steel 15cm Vernier Caliper in Fitted Case
A vintage Mauser precision vernier caliper. The instrument is constructed from stainless steel and features a dual-scale main beam. The lower scale is metric, graduated in millimetres and numbered every centimetre from 0 to 15, while the upper scale is imperial, measuring up to 6 inches. The sliding jaw includes a vernier scale to facilitate high-precision readings. The slider is equipped with a spring-loaded thumb-push release mechanism featuring a triangular emblem inscribed with the word PUSH. The slider body is engraved with the maker’s name and material. The tool is housed in its original rectangular hinged presentation case with a dark textured exterior, a purple velvet-lined base, and a yellow foam-lined lid.

Condition report:
The instrument shows visible signs of age and use, including surface oxidation, staining, and minor pitting to the metal surfaces, most notably on the jaws and along the main beam. The engraved scales and maker\'s marks remain legible. The thumb-push mechanism is functional. The foam lining in the case lid is heavily discoloured, brittle, and deteriorating due to age. The purple interior base lining shows surface wear and dust accumulation. The exterior case remains structurally sound with minor scuffs and marks.
