Buyer's Premium:

An oil painting on canvas depicting the medieval ruins of Furness Abbey in Barrow-in-Furness. The architectural focus is on the eastern range and chapter house, characterized by weathered stone walls and Gothic arched window openings. The foreground shows a rectangular grassed courtyard, likely the former cloisters, enclosed by paths. The painting is rendered in a Romantic landscape style using a muted colour palette of earth tones and greens. The work is housed in a substantial Victorian-style gilt composition frame featuring ornate scrolling foliate decoration and multiple stepped slips. An orange inventory tag with the number 192 is present on the top right corner of the frame.

Condition report:

The painting displays surface dust and an aged, yellowed varnish layer. There is a slight undulation to the canvas visible at the bottom edge. The gilt frame shows minor rubbing, surface abrasions, and small chips to the ornamental details, especially at the corners.
