Lot 190: John Rudkin and Geoffrey Cowton, A Pair of Signed Limited Edition Lake District Prints
A pair of framed and mounted limited edition prints after original watercolours, depicting iconic locations within the Lake District. The first work, by John Rudkin (British, b. 1947), is titled Watendlath Beck – The Lake District and illustrates the historic stone bridge and farm buildings. It is hand-signed in pencil to the lower right, titled to the lower centre, and numbered 357/500 to the lower left. The second work, by Geoffrey Cowton, is titled Rydal Mount and depicts the former home of William Wordsworth. It is hand-signed in pencil to the lower right, titled to the lower centre, and numbered 242/500 to the lower left. Both are photomechanical reproductions on paper, capturing the tonal washes and fine details of the original watercolour medium. The Rudkin print is presented in a gilt-wood frame with a cream mount, while the Cowton print is housed in a silver-toned frame with a tiered sage-green and gold-accented mount.
Condition report:
Both items are in good overall condition. The frames show minor surface wear and small scuffs to the finish. The prints are well-preserved with no signs of damp damage, foxing, or significant light-toning. Glazing is intact.
