Lot 183: UK 1983-1984 Royal Mail First Day Covers, Assortment of Commemorative Issues
An assortment of United Kingdom Royal Mail official First Day Covers issued between 1983 and 1984. Notable sets included in the group are the 1984 Greenwich Meridian Centenary issue (SG 1251-1254), the 1983 British River Fish issue (SG 1201-1204), and the 1984 Urban Renewal issue (SG 1245-1248). The covers feature multicoloured commemorative stamps with various denominations including 15.5p, 16p, 20p, 26p, 28p, 29p, and 31p. All items are cancelled with circular date stamps from Hull, North Humberside, coinciding with the official first day of issue. The covers are type-addressed to a recipient in Hull and feature various commemorative cachets, including a portrait of Sir George Biddell Airy on the Greenwich Meridian cover.
Condition report:
The covers are in good philatelic condition with clear and well-centred cancellations. Light handling wear is present, consistent with storage. The envelopes are type-addressed. A small white adhesive label with the number 7 is affixed to the front of the uppermost Greenwich cover. No significant staining, foxing, or creasing is visible.
