JULY AUCTION

Lot 18: A Trio of Studio and Art Pottery Vessels including a Tin-Glazed Earthenware Fish Vase

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A collection of three varied ceramic items. The first is a tin-glazed earthenware vessel of stylised form, combining elements of a fish and a fleur-de-lis, with an open flaring mouth and lobed fins. The piece is decorated with a vibrant yellow ground and cobalt blue borders featuring light-coloured foliate patterns. A central circular cartouche contains a hand-painted monogram in brown, showing the intertwined letters S and M. The second is a studio stoneware vase of tall ovoid form tapering to a small flared rim. The exterior features a textured surface with a speckled buff-grey glaze and prominent iron spotting. The third is an abstract organic studio pottery sculpture or vase comprising multiple overlapping and folded leaf or petal forms. The exterior of the folds is finished in a thick cream-coloured glaze with a hand-painted dark green line along the rims, while the interior surfaces reveal a textured, unglazed buff ceramic body.

Condition report:

The earthenware fish vessel appears in good condition with a glossy glaze surface. The stoneware vase is structurally sound with intentional glaze variations and carries a vintage orange price sticker. The abstract sculpture displays fine crazing throughout the cream glaze, which is characteristic of this glaze type and firing process. All items bear small white inventory labels marked with the number 4.
