Lot 157: A Trio of Ceramic Pitchers including Hillstonia Log Ware and Staffordshire Flora and Fauna
This lot comprises three decorative ceramic pitchers of varying forms and origins. The first is a large cylindrical Hillstonia earthenware pitcher featuring a textured tree bark or log design with horizontal banding and twin handles. The exterior is finished in a matt brown glaze, and the unglazed base is stamped Hillstonia with the impressed number 9722. The second item is a Staffordshire earthenware pitcher of ovoid form with a scalloped rim and scrolled handle. It is decorated with a shaded green glaze and a transfer-printed floral spray depicting roses, finished with a gilded edge. The base bears a brown transfer-printed backstamp featuring a crown and shield inscribed Flora and Fauna above a ribbon reading Staffordshire England. The third is a small hexagonal porcelain souvenir pitcher with a branch-form handle. The body is decorated with a transfer-printed scene of birds on pine branches and bears a gilded Gothic script inscription reading A Present. The base is marked with a circular stamp reading Made in Germany, a gilded 100, and an impressed S.
Condition report:
All items appear to be in good overall condition. The Hillstonia pitcher shows minor surface wear and staining to the unglazed base. The Staffordshire pitcher exhibits surface dirt on the underside of the foot. The German porcelain pitcher has minor wear to the gilded rim and light surface dirt consistent with age. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
