A pair of cast brass bookends featuring high-relief architectural depictions of Furness Abbey. Each bookend displays a detailed scene of the monastic ruins set against a stippled, textured background. The subject is identified by a cast inscription within a scroll at the base of the relief which reads FURNESS ABBEY. The pieces are of heavy cast construction with an arched top and an integrated flat base designed to slide under books. One bookend currently bears a temporary orange auction sticker numbered 122.
Condition report:
The bookends are in good vintage condition with surface wear and light scratches consistent with age and use. There are visible deposits of green verdigris and oxidation within the deeper recesses of the cast design. The brass exhibits a naturally aged patina throughout.
