JUNE AUCTION

Lot 66: A Collection of Eight Framed Ceramic Collector Plates Depicting British Steam Locomotives After Artwork by Paul S. Gribble

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This collection consists of eight circular ceramic collector plates, each housed within a dark-stained circular wooden frame featuring a multi-stepped and beaded profile. The plates are decorated with high-detail transfer-printed scenes of various historic British steam locomotives in scenic rural and industrial environments. Key subjects include the Royal Scot locomotive and a blue LNER A4 class locomotive. One plate is clearly signed within the print Paul S. Gribble, an artist noted for his railway-themed works. The plates appear to be crafted from fine bone china or porcelain with gilded rims. While the frames and backing boards obscure any factory marks, the artistic style and subjects are consistent with collector series produced by companies such as Davenport or the Danbury Mint. A box in the background is marked Fine Arts Craftsmanship in Sculpture, Scotland, Langholm, Dumfriesshire, which may relate to the distributor or a similar collectible series. Small orange lot stickers are affixed to some of the frames.

Condition report:

The visible ceramic surfaces of the plates appear to be in good condition, with no apparent chips, cracks, or significant crazing. The gilded rims remain bright and well-preserved. The wooden frames show some minor surface scuffing, light scratches, and a layer of dust consistent with long-term display and age.
