A collection of commemorative medals and badges dating from the late Victorian and early Edwardian periods, all originating from Ulverston, Cumbria. The items are struck in white metal and feature various civic and local motifs. The collection includes two medals issued by the Ulverston Urban District Council, embossed with the town’s coat of arms and the inscription ULVERSTON URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL. One is attached to a red, white, and blue striped ribbon with a decorative horizontal pin bar, while the other features a blue, cream, and red ribbon with a standard safety pin clasp. Included is a King Edward VII coronation medal inscribed CORONATION DAY 26TH JUNE 1902 and ULVERSTON around a central shield, suspended from a vertical red, white, and blue tricolour ribbon. The final item is a medal dated 1896, embossed with INFANTS SCHOOL and 1896 surrounding a depiction of a school building, retaining a fragment of red ribbon and a safety pin fastening.
Condition report:
The medals show age-related tarnishing and surface wear. Oxidation is visible on the metal pin attachments. The ribbons are in varied states of preservation; the 1902 coronation ribbon is significantly frayed and worn, and the 1896 school medal ribbon is largely missing.
