An oak settle bench constructed in the 17th-century revival style. The piece features a high four-panelled backrest above a rectangular seat with a hinged lid that opens to reveal a deep storage compartment. Decorative carved guilloche patterns are present on the stiles of both the backrest and the front of the chest section. The bench is fitted with scroll-ended armrests on turned supports and is raised on four turned bun feet. The construction employs traditional panelling techniques. No maker’s marks or labels are visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The bench is in fair condition. There is significant wear, prominent staining, and finish loss to the surface of the seat lid. The body shows general scuffs, scratches, and age-related marks throughout. The structural integrity of the frame and hinges appears sound.
