A Victorian style side chair crafted from mahogany or a similar dark-stained hardwood with a polished finish. The chair features a characteristic waisted balloon back with a moulded and curved top rail. The seat is upholstered in a cream-coloured floral damask fabric decorated with a scrolling foliate pattern, finished with a border of brass-headed upholstery nailhead trim. The seat is designed with a serpentine front edge. Two small contemporary auction house inventory labels are attached to the upper left side of the frame; an orange sticker numbered 448 and a white sticker numbered 2.
Condition report:
The mahogany frame appears structurally sound with the polished finish generally well-maintained. The cream damask upholstery on the seat shows several distinct darkened stains and areas of surface discolouration across the centre and towards the edges.
