Lot 320: An Assortment of Vintage Novelty Tins and a Toy Construction Box
This assortment consists of several vintage items including three lithographed tinplate containers and a wooden toy box. The wooden box is rectangular with a hinged lid secured by a metal latch, and features a white cord loop attached to the front. The lid is decorated with a lithographed paper label featuring children playing with building sets, with the vertical text CONSTRUCTIONS. The collection also includes a novelty tinplate house with a gabled roof, featuring a lithographed design of orange scalloped tiles, brick walls, and windows with floral decorations. A small rectangular tin with rounded corners displays a lithographed image of a child in red clothing resting in a grassy field. The final item is an oval tin lid with a recessed centre, decorated with a border of colourful pansies and green foliage against a textured brown ground. No manufacturer marks are visible on any of the items.
Condition report:
The items show varying degrees of age-related wear and use. The wooden toy box exhibits significant peeling and losses to the lithographed paper label, particularly at the corners and edges. The tinplate items show surface scratches, some light oxidation, and minor losses to the lithographed finish consistent with their age. All items in the group have small white and orange stickers applied to their exterior surfaces.
