Lot 313: Anglo-Indian Carved Ebonised Wood Desk Inkstand with Elephant Figures
A carved ebonised wood desk inkstand in the Anglo-Indian style. The rectangular base features two circular turned inkwell holders, one of which retains its domed lid with a small knob finial. The stand includes two notched horizontal pen racks and a central recessed pen trough. The piece is ornamented with four carved elephant figures; two are positioned flanking the central trough and two at the front corners. The base plateau is decorated with a continuous embossed border of hearts and foliate scrolls. A small white adhesive label marked with the digit 3 and an orange price tag marked 315 are present on the base. No manufacturer marks or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The item is in fair to good vintage condition. There is visible surface dust and white particulate residue within the carved and recessed areas. One inkwell lid is missing. The material exhibits minor surface wear and small abrasions consistent with domestic use and age.
